A solo side project for real families

About Family Game Lab

Family Game Lab is run by a nerdy dad, husband, and father of two. I started this site because I already spend way too much time researching games, tech, gadgets, learning tools, and family-friendly gear before buying anything.

Why this site exists

Friends and family know I tend to think things through, compare the details, and probably over-research more than I need to. At some point, I figured that research might as well help other parents too.

The goal

Help families find games and tech that feel fun, useful, and worth bringing into the house.

I work in IT, so I naturally pay attention to things like setup, specs, safety features, parental controls, durability, and whether a product is actually practical for real family life. But I’m also looking at these products as a parent, not just as a tech person.

I do use AI tools to help organize ideas, draft sections, and speed up parts of the writing process since I’m running this site completely solo. But the product choices are not just AI-generated lists. I hand-pick the items based on personal experience, professional experience, product research, customer feedback, and what I would realistically consider for my own family.

I’m not a big review company or a full editorial team. I’m just a dad building this site after work, trying to make better buying decisions for my own family, and hopefully helping yours do the same.

Simple version: I do the research, compare the details, and try to make family shopping a little easier.

What We Do

Family Game Lab publishes practical, easy-to-scan guides for parents and families looking for kids tech, STEM toys, family games, gaming gear, and everyday gear for home, travel, and play.

Every post is designed to answer one key question:

Which product should I actually buy?

How I Choose Products

Every guide starts with one simple question:

Would I actually consider this for my own family, or recommend it to another parent?

I choose products based on a mix of personal experience, professional experience, and practical research. Some are products I have used myself, while others are items I understand because of my background working with technology, troubleshooting real-world problems, and helping people choose tools that actually fit their needs.

I do not personally own every product on this site, but I try to be clear when I have direct experience with something. When I do not, I look closely at the product details, common customer feedback, and whether it makes sense for real families.

Personal fit

Would I consider this for my own family?

Practical value

Does it make sense for real homes, kids, budgets, and busy parents?

Real details

Do the specs, feedback, setup, and tradeoffs hold up?

Our Promise

I try to keep things simple, honest, and useful.

Family Game Lab focuses on products that make sense for families, highlights both strengths and weaknesses, and avoids unnecessary hype. No product is perfect. The goal is to help you decide whether something is actually right for your family, your budget, and your situation.
